For most of us, Thanksgiving is a time to reunite with loved ones, feast on delicious food and contemplate all we have to be thankful for.
However, for thousands of people in the DC metropolitan area, Thanksgiving takes on an even bigger meaning. For those facing HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life-challenging illnesses, Thanksgiving is about living to see another holiday and taking a short break from their daily challenges. This is why, on Thanksgiving, Food & Friends goes the extra mile to make sure each of our clients have a Thanksgiving holiday worth celebrating!
Throughout the Thanksgiving season, hundreds of people work to prepare the more than 7,800 pounds of turkey, 1,040 pounds of mashed potatoes and 130 gallons of gravy that are on the menu. It takes an army of volunteers to assist in kitchen preparations and then to deliver complete Thanksgiving dinners to 3,500 people on Thanksgiving Day. In addition, these holiday meals would not be possible without the significant support of generous corporate and individual sponsors.
