Food & Friends' Garden of Gratitude

In 2008, Food & Friends commemorated twenty years of caring commitment to men, women and children who are affected by life-challenging illnesses. To mark this milestone, we created our Garden of Gratitude to honor the thousands of volunteers, friends and families who make our work possible. In the summer of 2009, we added the Friendship Wall to honor those who have served and to remember those who have been served by Food & Friends.

The design for the Wall was selected through an international competition in 2008.  It is comprised of glass tiles, designed by renowned mixed-media sculptor Tim Tate, who is donating his time for this project and also created the glass sculptures throughout our building. The Wall will be dedicated at our annual Open House on September 26, 2009.

Food & Friends was founded to serve a distinct need in our community -- feeding those who are sick. This need persists and continues to grow.  For more than twenty years, Food & Friends has been the only organization in the Washington metropolitan area to provide life-sustaining nutrition to our neighbors in need. Our pledge to the community is that as long as this need exists, Food & Friends will be there. You, too, can be part of fulfilling that promise by supporting the newly constructed Garden of Gratitude and Friendship Wall,

The Friendship Wall offers an opportunity to join with us to honor or remember someone special in your life or a Food & Friends volunteer or client. Special gifts of $2,500, $5,000, $10,000 or $25,000 can be made to place a customized message on a glass tile.

Surrounding the Garden of Gratitude will be a fence covered in beautiful, hand-crafted stainless steel leaves. Each leaf that adorns the fence will also provide opportunities for personalization.  Leaves may be personalized with a donation of $250, $500 or $1,000.

Every dollar raised through gifts to this project will go toward our current operating budget, which supports our mission to prepare and deliver specialized meals and groceries in conjunction with nutrition counseling, free of charge, to those who qualify based on their health status and nutritional need.
